Frozen 2
Image result for frozen 2       Recently, I went and saw Frozen 2, and it was a very good movie of which I highly recommend. It provided people with a great story plot and lots of emotion! Although this may seem as just another one of your average children's movie that hold simple themes and morals, movie watchers can began to notice something in the dialogue and plot of movie along with the time of year that the movie had been released. This is going to be a bit of a spoiler so if you are planning on watching this movie and do not want to know what events and endings take place, this may not be the blog for you this time. The main issue that took place was the spiritual calling that led Elsa to figure out the truth that had happened between the protecting people of the magical forest and the people of Arendelle. This truth of what really happened was hidden beneath lies told of Elsa and Anna's father's father had told of which was that the people of the forest started a war after the former king Arendelle had built them this great dam. After going through this huge journey it was found that the people of the forest were completely harmless and loving and the people of Arendelle we in fear causing them to build the dam as a deceiving gift that ultimately harmed them and they had started the war. This finding had to do with the indigenous people of the forest and others who entered a land of which was not there and tried to control them related to the colonization of the United States. A very similar thing happened as Europeans came to the United States and killed thousands of indigenous people and then lied about the actions of which took place, making it into a holiday. This movie played off of this and was purposely released near Thanksgiving to show that although everyone is healing from the trauma that was caused my Europeans, we must remember the truths of what happened.

  1. I agree with the fact that Frozen 2 really highlights the parallel between the European colonization and when Elsa, Anna, Kristoff, and Olaf enter the forest and meet the new "indigenous" people

  2. I fully agree with this but have you ever thought that instead of portraying what really happened in history, Disney is trying to appeal more to Native Americans? Think about it, for me, Tiana was a queen, I saw myself in her, there was representation. In doing this, I also forced my mother to buy me all things Tiana related. Disney might have been trying to show representation in making the movie, The Princess and the Frog, but they're also a billion dollar company. Tiana appealed to the African_American community who can resonate with the struggles of everyday life and working hard to get what they want. Tiana is a marketing strategy to get African-Americans to buy Disney products. I believe this is the same with Frozen 2. Elsa, a European women comes and admits the faults of her people and saves the indigenous people; giving them land. A Native American person may appeal to this. They think Disney is finally saying what needs to be said, Elsa is the hero saving the day and the people. And now, Native Americans are buying Elsa dolls and singing her songs. I think this movie brings a wonderful message but also I think it is a very clever marketing technique.
